Jake,
Great piece! You have to promise me to take me on this ride (maybe halfway) with you when I visit the Portland area.

Very refreshing thought that even Pros like you are mortals like me.

You SoCal Host,

Hi guys,

Thanks for the comments. Glad the story was enjoyed. I've heard from a few folks who coach younger riders as well who forwarded it on. I think it's great to keep things in perspective and enjoy cycling and training from time to time. That's not so bad is it?

Jacob,

I think we met once a few years ago at a race in
Alberta somewhere. I'm a friend of Kozak's, he emailed me the link.

Your article is inspiring and well timed. I've been doing an altitude training camp in Flagstaff, AZ and was on the treadmill, draining the life out of myself all week long. I needed a reminder that I should be enjoying the training (and not just doing it as a means to an end). Time to get outside and breath the fresh, thin air.

Thanks,

Jacobo ol'buddy...you certainly do have a way with words. I think i will forward this story/Epiphany along to some of my friends who are still racing at a high level (tri's/running). maybe it will make them think like it did for me.

good luck this season buddy.
